(Internal Use Only - PLC) LIAISON Met with Kirk 0' onnell, in the office of the Speaker of the House, and scussed the Director's letter to the Speaker initiating the program of the handling of compartmented clearances for the Legislative Branch. Mr. O'Donnell said that Speaker Thomas P. O'Neill supports the program and looks to Chairman Edward P. Boland (D., Mass.), House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to resolve any issues that may arise with the Chairmen of other Committees of the House seeking compartmented clearances for their staffs. O'Donnell noted that the Speaker does not wish weekly intelligence briefings but will ask for briefings on special topics from time to time. Later in the day, O'Donnell called and asked that a briefing be arranged for the Speaker at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow, in. Room I-I 204 of the Capitol, to cover recent reports of a North Korean military build up on the 38th parallel. Fill handle. Mike O'Neil had earlier 25X1 received a call from the Speaker's Office asking that Hymol's clearances be checked since he was planning to accompany the Speaker to the bliefiPfy on North Korea tommorrow morning.
