A total of seven major electric power plants in Kwangtung Province have
now been reported in Basic Imagery Interpretation Reports. This report ful-
fills the FY-72 requirement for an update report on the following facilities
(see Figure 1).

Construction has been observed at Ju-yuan Hydro Power Plant Nan Shui
since the date of the latest photography used in the previous
repor o ograp y In revealed that a powerhouse and at least
five small buildings have been constructed at the base of a hill about 2.4 nm
east of the earthen dam (see Figure 2). This is just north of the previously
reported site for the powerhouse. It can now be determined that construction
of the powerhouse was under way in
The powerhouse is apparently connected to the water supply by an
underground conduit. There is a water intake located just upstream from
the dam and a surge tank on the hill directly above the powerhouse. Water
from the conduit is discharged into the Nan Shui (river)from outlets located
beneath the powerhouse. The presence of a switching yard or transformers
could not be determined, nor could any measurements of the plant components
be made because of the small scale of the photography.
The plant was operating in as indicated by turbulence in the
tailrace below the powerhouse.
