On 19 May 1978, Is L briefed Jason Cook and Gene Friedman, 25X1 members of the House Inter-American Affairs Subcommittee of the International Relations Committee, on the Caribbean sources of illegal aliens in the United States. The briefing also covered demographic characteristics and economic potential that will affect future migration patterns. The staff members requested the briefing after reading an EIW article on the subject. , 2. The subcommittee staff expressed its strong interest in the work that OER has done on the issue of illegal migration. They were especially appreciative of the timeliness of our input since hearings are in progress in the House of Representatives and Senate on the illegal alien'issue. 3. After the briefing, staff members informed us that hearings will be held this summer on illegal migration from the Central and South American countries. They expressed an interest in a subsequent briefing on this topic and stated that they would be in touch with us on this issue.
