to discuss several matters related to the briefing on the North.
Korean subversive activities scheduled to be given to the Subcommittee
on Tnternational Organizations on 3 August. Smeeton suggested
that it would be appropriate for Chairman Donald M. Fraser (D.,
Minn.) to make some remarks regard-Mg the proper treatment. of
classified information.

on Internat.:ions ~ 0rgani.zai:ions, to ask whether ho could arrange
for Subcommittee Chairman Donald M. Fraser (D. , Minn.) to read a
brief statement that we would prepare on the handling of classified
information and the need to treat the identity of the Agency's
briefer with the utmost discretion when we brief the Subcommittee
on North Korean subversive activities on 3 August. Hershman said
this would he no problem, and I said I would get the statement
to him early next week.

THIRD AGENCY Took a call. from
Office of Legislative Affairs, NSA, who
sai.c t Iat NSA had informed Mike Epstein, on the staff of the
Senate,- Select Committee on Intelligence, that he was not
authorized to show NSA documents in his possession to staff
members of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. I told
Jthat we had earlier in the day informed Epstein.
ra. tree Senate Ethics staff fers had received SI brie:fi_ngs,
and thus could be exposed to this compartmented information,
but. that we had specifically cautioned Epstein that this
notification was not meant to imply in any way that we were
authorizing him to show documents which were the property of
another Agency to the Senate Ethics staffers.

on International Relations, called to recta reports
for Eastern Europe, La-tin Amer People's Republic of 25X1
China. Arrangements were made to initiate the
subscriptions and Send them to Ms. Wal te' attention.
