LIAISON In the company of Fred Iu:itz, I a en ec. a meeting at the Department of Justice on the e:l..ectronic surveillance bill. Those in attendance were: Paul Daly and John Ilotis, FBI; John Ellff, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staf.=f; Bob Andretiys, Department of Defense; NSA; Ncwal Squyers and Ray Calamaro, Department of Justice; Bernie Raimo, Ilouse. Permanent Select Committee on Intell:i.gence staff; Bruce Lehman, House Jud:ic:i_a.ry Sul.>committee on Courts, Civil Liberties and the Administration of Justice staff; Terry Straub, OMB; and Kay Folger, Department of State. We agreed to make calls to 15 Members of Congress. 11. LIAISON Called Holly Brown, in thb. office of Senator John Chafee (R. , R. I .) , and advised her that due to the death of the Director's father we would have to cancel the breakfast scheduled for this Friday. She said she would pass the message to the Senator. We agreed that she would get in touch with me after the Congressional recess and we would reschedule the breakfast meeting. 12. LIAISON Called Toula, in the office of Representative John Murphy (D., N.Y.), and advised that due to the death of the Director's father, it would not be possible to arrange an appointment for the Congressman with the Director. I asked if she would check with the Congresman and see if he would agree to meet with someone else in the Agency for the briefing he desires. Toula said she would check and let me know. 13. LIAISON Received a call from Mr. D.C. Urrick, in the office of Senator Charles Mathias (R., Md.) who said the Senator could meet with Mr. Fred. IIitz at 3:30 p.m. on 15 August. I confirmed this appointment. 14. LIAISON Called Jim Bush, House Permanent e ec Committee on Intelligence staff, to tell him that Herb Romerstein and Dick Giza also of the Committee staff, both had an interest in seeing the classified paper on international terrorism and to tell ._ us i that we had no objection to their seeing this paper.
