1. In connection with the request of the. Senate Foreign Relations
Committee that the Director have a CIA representative brief that Com-
mittee an the Iraq situation, the Director telephoned Senator Richard B.
Russell (D., Ga.) who indicated that probably the Director had no choice
but to go ahead. The Director further stated that under the circum-
stances, if the House Foreign Affairs Committee called him, he probably
would have to brief them also.
