Dulles Dr. Herbert Scoville, Jr., Dr. Karl H. We ber, 23X1 Colonel John A. White, John S. Warner and 25X1 I h C airman of GMIC. 4. With the cooperation of the Security Office, a physical survey was made of the hearing room and a technical sweep was also made. The Security Office furnished two men at all times to stand at the doors and to assist in clearing the room after the hearings. 5. It was early determined that there would only be three (3) copies of the transcript and that it would be held by the Subcommittee staff and be available to Senators only by dropping by and reading the transcript where it vas held. The re.porting firm through the Sub- committee staff delivered to the Agency the various carbon, dictauelts and waste from the closed hearings for eventual destruction. 6. At a point where the DCI had just concluded the opening part of his statement, the point was raised of whether that testimony could be unclassified. The Dire :tor agreed that probably it could. He went on to explain the peculiar problem of the Agency in connection with unclas,:if.ied testimony. The Subcommittee Chairman asked the agency to attempt to clear as much of the record. for publishing as possible. The Director agreed to do the best we could on this, 7. One cop; of the transcript was made available to the Agency on Z December 1957 for correction and return by 6 December. Cyrus Vance specifically stated that it was the desire of the Committee that the transcript not be made available outside of the Agency. The DCI and DDCI were informed of this request. In the meantime, Mr. Robert Dechert, General Counsel, Department of Defense, called requesting the transcript and he was also advised of the Subcommittee's desires. 8. In my opinion, the Senators were courteous and attentive and most interested in the facts presented to them. I do not believe the record will show any overt antagonism toward the Agency.
