Office of Legislative Counsel
Thursday - 6 March 1952
1. I&S, called to state that the Katyn Massacre Com-
mittee desired the testimony of to be made in open sessiATATINTL
but that the Committee merely desired an informal meeting with the Colonel
today to determine whether it should be in open or closed session. I re-
quested Committee Counsel Mitchell to please assure us that TATINTL
security would be protected in view of the fact that his present assignment
was to the CIA headquarters company. Mitchell assured me that all
appropriate steps would be taken. He also invited any appropriate CIA
representatives to attend the Committee showing of the German films on
the Katyn Massacre. I informed Acting AD/PC of this STATINTL
invitation and he planned to send appropriate representatives.
2. Attended meeting of NSRB dispersal committee, and reported to
DD/I that the area of need for information was being steadily narrowed,
and that it might be that CIA need not supply any intelligence support what-
soever. This was, in part, predicated on my suggestion to the Committee,
in conjunction with the Air Force representatives, that for planning pur-
poses it could be assumed that the Russians had or would have a maximum
weapon within normal planning expectancy. This will eliminate discussions
of Russian atomic stockpiles or capabilities in thermal nuclear weapons.
