CONFIDENTIAL 25X1A 25X1A In your absence, the details reference the assignment of key research and analysis personnel to intelligence staff in I were completed. It was first intended that such personnel from ORE would be sent overseas on a regular two year contract basis and assigned to OSO. The Assistant Director, ORE, the individuals concerned and their branch chiefs, all had an objection to e length of the proposed tour. They suggested that they be sent on a TD duty status for six months and be replaced by other personnel at the end of that period. ADSO had an objection to this on the basis of favoritism over the regular OSO personnel. The Director finally decided, after clearing with General that the two individuals concerned would be sent on a six months TD basis, would remain assigned to ORE, and be directly under the control of A condition of such assignment was that they be sent on a bachelor status as there was no legal authority for sending their families while they were on a temporary duty status. There would, of course, be no objection to their families accompanying them if it'were done without expense to the Government and could be cleared by EUCOM. E. K.
