"A Matter of Risk" by Roy Varner and Wayne Collier LARRY KING: An extraordinary new book has just been published by Random House. It's titled "A Matter of Risk." The subtitle, "The Incredible Inside Story of the CIA's Hughes Glomar Explorer Mission to Raise a Russian Submarine." The book is written by Roy Varner and Wayne Collier, and both gentlemen are in the studios with us here at Mutual. Mr. Varner has received a communications degree from the University of Texas, has written industrial training programs and produced video and television broadcasts. Wayne Collier is a former Global Marine, Incorporated employee in charge of recruiting personnel for this particular mission. He previously worked as an undercover narcotic agent for the Justice Department's Drug Enforcement Agency. Before we talk about the book, let's find out a little bit about the guys. Roy this is, I guess, your first book. ROY VARNER: Yes, this is the first book I've KING: How did it come about for you? VARNER: Wayne contacted me. He was looking for someone who could do an honest job of writing the story ob- jectively and not have an ax to grind about the CIA, and he contacted me in Houston as a freelance writer. We worked together for a couple of weeks and finally decided it was a good match. KING: What, generally, do you do?
