SECURITY CLASSIFICATION OF REPORTS
1. In the preparation of formal reports, collateral materials and
references are being used that affect the overall classification of the
reports and unnecessarily restrict their dissemination. In order to permit
as broad a dissemination as possible, care must be exercised in report
preparation to include only those references essential to its substantive
content.
2. Two problem areas include the use of maps and the referencing of
collateral documents. Some reports in the past have used maps bearing the
thus affecting the overall classification of the
reports and unnecessarily! 'from the dis-
tribution. Such map references will not be used unless absolutely essential
? to the, substantive content of the ?report in,other_instances, under
"document reference", collateral reports are listed which have been written
on the same subject but do not add to the substantive content of the report.
References to such reports will be included only when information in these
reports is used in the text.
