MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Logistics

After checking with PD, and
the following information was obtained regarding
portraits of the Directors.
a. Mr. Richard Helms' portrait was
painted in 1971 by William F. Draper, 535 Park
Avenue, New York City, New York. Mr. Helms sat
for the portrait, and it cost a total of $8,312.
b. Admiral Rayborn's was done by
Mr. Rudolf A. Bernalschke of IFA Galleries of
Washington, D.C. A setting portrait, done in
1966, at a cost of $4,200.
c. Mr. Allen Dulles' portrait was
painted by Mr. Gardner Cox. This was a setting
portrait done in 1958/59 for about $3,000.
d. Mr. John A. McCone's portrait
was also painted by Mr. Draper in 1966 at a total
cost of $4,687. This contract, as for Mr. Helms,
was with Portraits, Inc., 136 East 57th Street,
New York.
e. General Hoyt Vandenberg's portrait
was painted by Mr. C. L. MacNelly. It was painted
from another portrait, and the cost was $4,221.
f. Rear Admiral Sours' portrait was
painted by Mr. MacNelly at a cost of $3,804.
Mr. MacNelly traveled twice to Saint Louis, Mis-
souri to have Admiral Sours pose for the portrait.

Commission. Contracts tor the portraits were arranged by STATINTL
and the approvals were signed by the Executive
Director - Comptroller or the DD/S at the time. Funds were
usually provided from the Director's funds.
