The volume of cement imported by Cambodia in 1966 will be below the annual average over the past five years. Furthermore, the increase of about 20 thousand tons of cement imported in 1966 over the level of 1965 is not significant. During 1966 and early 1967, Cambodia has been and will be engaged in the following construction projects requiring cement: a) GANEFO olympic stadium for the athletic games held for the newly emerging nations in November and December 1966, plus a GANEFO village to house 2,000 athlet6s? b) Large hydroelectbic dam outside Phnom Penh c) Expansion of Siem Reap airfield d) Expansion of port facilities at Sihanoukville e) 200 bed hospital f) additional road construction, plus a bridge g) industrial plants, such as glass, textile, jute, etc. Approved For Release 2002/05/0'a "C~16k fR14P 02149R000200240002-1 n Approved For Release 2002/05/07 : CIA-RDP78SO2149R000200240002-1 3. To suggest the scope of cement requirements for these con- struction projects being undertaken in Cambodia, several examples are offered: 1. The GANEFO stadium and village probably utilized between 5 and 10 thousand tons of cement. 2. A hydroelectric dam would need about 25 thousand tons of cement. 3.
