SUBJECT : Preliminary Evaluation of U-2R
Airplane Proposal

Proposal for U-2R Airplane
1. Subject proposal was received 18 January 1966 and.
deals with an expanded version of the U-2 aircraft with
substantially increased altitude, range and payload/sensor
flexibility.
2. I have charged the Deputy for Technology, OSA with
the responsibility of preparing and forwarding to me by
28 January 1966 a preliminary evaluation of this proposal.
I ask that all addressees review this proposal (attached
hereto) and prepare written comments covering your respec-
tive areas of interest in terms of feasibility, weaknesses
apparent, and recommended changes. I ask that these written
formal comments'be submitted in triplicate to the Deputy
for Technology, OSA by noon 27 January 1966. I realize
that this timing necessitates the use of estimates based
upon experience-and tools at hand and, therefore, your com-
ments will be interpreted in the framework of a preliminary
evaluation.
3. In order that I may provide as much help as possible
in formulating your comments, I request you or your repre-
sentative attend a meeting in the Control Center of OSA on;
24 January 1966 at 1100 hours.
