MEMORANDUM FOR: The Director
SUBJECT Television Documentary on the CIA

1. In the latter part of April, you sent me a
letter you had received from a gentleman named Andrew
Brichant, Vice President of an organization called NAE
Research Associates, Inc.. You asked me to reply to
that letter, and I did so with a non-committal expression
of thanks on 29 April.
2. On 27 May, I received another letter from
Mr. Brichant, this one addressed to me. It and its
enclosures are attached to this note. As you will see,
Mr. Brichant is proposing putting together "a one-hour
television special showing the positive contributions
of the CIA to America's security." In this venture,
he has solicited the assistance of Mr. Alan Neuman,
a television and film producer whose professional
biography is also appended. As you can see, Mr. Neuman
also seems to be an enthusiastic proponent of this
concept.
3. I do not know anything about Mr. Brichant
From Mr. Neuman 's biography, he would appear to
have a fairly impressive set of credentials as a producer
and director of television programs.
4. Mr. Brichant does not ask for anything explicit
though clearly he is implicitly requesting Agency assist-
ance and cooperation. The subject he raises is a com-
plicated one, but I think we ought to consider his
proposition (after finding out something more about him)
before rejecting it out of hand. One aspect of that
consideration will be, of course, ascertaining precisely
what his proposition is.

5. Mr. Brichant's letter was sent to me because I
signed the reply to his 15 April letter to you.
Mr. Thuermer would probably be a more appropriate person
than I to answer his most recent note, but the proposition
it puts forth is probably one you will want to discuss
before any reply is made.
