The Wiecko land base airfield is located near the eastern periphery of the village of Wieoko. The village, which has about ten houses and several wooden barracks, is situated about 25 kilometer. s west of Ustka. '(Stolpmuende) betweot ?Lake`Wiebkb. ?(Vi.etlkor See) and the';soacoast. The airfield is rr,c- tangu~ar in shape and runs about 1,600 meters east-west along the afore- mentioned lake and is about 1,400 meters wide. Two concrete runways, each about two kilometers long, run from the corners of the field thus forming the letter "X". The remainder of the field is surfaced with grass and gravel which has been rolled into the ground. One hangar Constructed of brick and three liquid fuel tanks camouflaged with paint are located above- ground on the field. 2. The airfield, which has its headquarters located in the building nearest the storage tanks, has always been nominally in Polish hands; but only nominally, since the air force group that was stationed on the field for a long period of time was a Soviet one, and later the unit stationed there belonged to the naval air force group in Slupsk (Stolp). At present, the total air force group on the field numberq about 140 men. 3. A radar unit mounted on an automobile chassis (podwozie samochodowe) is usually located in the northwest corner of the field or along the western boundary. The radar antenna, which resembles two concave ears, turns around on an axis which is between three and four meters high. 4. Since 1952, three to six planes of an unspecified YAK model have been located on the field, and occasionally, as many as 40 Soviet IL bombers which are able to land on and take off from the field. One biplane, for the. use of the Soviet brigadier general who is commander of a mechanized division with head uarters in Jaroslawiee, is also located on the field. Lastly, 25X1 several planes from Slupsk come to the field quite often. 9Fxi 2bAlA Commet: This information was previously submitted SECRET/CONTROL - U. S.
