4.1 I In response to his request, met'with
Garner Cline, House Judiciary Committee, who told me off the record
that the Judiciary Committee will at some point be forwarding a formal
request to the Armed Services Committee for release of all Watergate
material to the Committee in their study of possible grounds for impeach-
ment of the President of the United States. John Warner, OGC,has been
advised.
5? I I Talked with Frank Slatinshek, Chief
Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, who told me that DOD has
been requested to return tomorrow for an additional briefing on the
Middle East crisis. He has not requested DCI attendance. I gave
'S.latinshek a copy of t.h TASS report of the DCI STATSPEC
testimony of CIA actions in Chile . and iscussed with him the handling
of the transcript of the Director's briefing of 23 October. Slatins.hek
had no question on our handling of the transcripts. I told him of the
noon time briefing of Mr. Nedzi concerning the Soviet alert of their
forces and gave him the same information that I had given to Ned.zi earlier.

Hogan told me that Chairman Nedzi plans a public
release of the Intelligence Subcommittee report on the Watergate hearings
next Wednesday. Copies of the release will be made available to the press
and ourselves on Tuesday. Hogan told me off the record that the matter
of review of the report by the Agency was discussed in the Subcommittee
meeting, but there; was a very strong determination by the Members that it
should not be..release'd to the Agency prior to final release by.the' Committee.

been out of the city since sometime last week. Chairman Morgan can-
celled Mike Finley's travel to Chile with Harrington. I also discussed
with Czarnecki in some detail other possible areas that had occurred to
him on.the subject of release of the transcript to the press.

9. JMM) Called Chairman Lucien Nedzi, Intelligence
Subcommittee, ouse rmed Services Committee, in response to his earlier
call inquiring about the basis for the U. S. "alert. " I told him there had been
some activity on the part of Soviet military elements which had caused some
concern but there might well be other information of a diplomatic nature with
which I was not familiar which could also be a factor. I suggested he might
get a more up to date and complete rundown on the military situation from
the Defense Department.
