10. JMM) Mike Copps, Executive Assistant
to Senator Ernest Hol ings . , S. C. ), called to say that the Senator was
very anxious for a quick briefing on truce violations in Indochina prior to
a 10:00 meeting tomorrow morning, Copps apologized for the short notice
but asked if there was any way, we could help him, I said I would be STATINTL
back in touch. After checking with the Director and consulting
SAVA I called Copps back to say that unless something un oreseen
intervened, ould meet with the Senator around 9:30 tomorrow.
11. LLM) Walt Evans, Legislative Assistant to
Senator Mar z ., .), called yesterday on the status .of our wrap-up
on the ses. I outlined our ideas on a joint draft state-
ment for a and Representative John Dellenback (R. , Oreg. ), and his
reaction was that it would satisfy their needs. He said it would also be
very comforting to the family if Secretary Rogers signed a letter to the
effect that the individuals gave their lives for the benefit of their country
and I said we would see what we could to along this line.
12. LLM) Met with Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel,
Senate Armed ervices Committee, in preparation for Thursdayrs session
with the full Committee on retirement quota legislation, covering the impact
of the legislation on the integrity of the fund and the 1 April effective date,
among other things. It was Braswell's opinion that things were going rather
well and that we should not anticipate any problems with the Committee; but
he does believe we should be aware of the possibility that when the measure
reaches the floor some Members might attempt to attach riders concerning
the Agency, such as the Cooper bill which requires the Agency to share all
of its information and analysis with the foreign affairs and armed services
