SUBJECT: Senate Subcommittee on Multinational
Corporations
I have received a request from the Chairman of the_ Senate
Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations for you to appear for
questioning, under oath, before the Subcommittee in connection
with its investigation of the involvement of International Telephone
and Telegraph Corporation in the Chilean elections in 1970. I have
reached agreement with the Chairman of the Subcommittee that your
.appearance would be in executive session, under oath, to present
testimony limited to your conversations with ITT officials in 1970
in connection with Chile. You will respond fully, to the best of your
recollection, to questions in this area from the Subcommittee and its
staff in executive session, including, of course, identification of
yourself and the position you held in the Agency at that time. If
you are questioned by the Chairman and members of the Subcorn
mittee, or its staff, concerning matters outside this agreed-on area ,
you will respectfully decline to answer any such questions and, suggest
that they be referred to the Director of Central Intelligence.
