(Unclassified - JMM) LaBre Garcia, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, called in behalf of an applicant, Mr. a graduate student at Cornell. We promised to send him application forms. 25X1A 12, (Confidential - JMM) In telephone conversations, of OGC and I explained to Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, the facts regarding the Sam Adams matter as a result of today's New York Times story. Slatinshek seemed satisfied with the Agency's role, but asked that we prepare a paper outlining the history of the CIA-MACV disagreements on Vietcong strength figures. 13. (Confidential - JMM) After discussions with Messrs. Colby and Coffey, I called Herbert Roback, Staff Director, House Government Operations Subcommittee on Legislation and Military Operations, and told him we still would prefer not to reveal the identities of the police departments who had participated in Agency training or briefings but if the Chairman and Roback felt it necessary to respond to the request of David Burnham of the New York Times we would try to cooperate. I said we had checked with all the police forces involved and most had, with varying degrees of reluctance, agreed to release us from our mutual commitment to protect their identities. I said there were two who had very serious problems with being identified and I would appreciate his not revealing their identities to which he agreed. The others I said were as follows: Agency training--Boston, New York, Washington Metropolitan, Arlington, Fairfax, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties; Agency briefing or demonstration--Miami, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Virginia State Police, Alexandria and Falls Church.
