MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: IMark Moran,
Ex-African Aide to Ex-Senator John V. Tunney (D., Calif. )
1. On 9 March 1977, Mark Moran came to Headquarters for a
debriefing by DDI/analysts on his November-December 1976 trip to
Southern Africa (Namibia, Transkei, two weeks in South Africa) and
Egypt (a week), and his January 1977 week with Senator Tunney in
Angola. In South Africa he met a variety of the national government
leaders and some opposition figures. In Angola, he had been most
cordially received in January 1975. He and Senator Tunney went
this time at the personal invitation of President Neto. They met
the foreign minister, but then met almost no one else of prominence
after he and Senator Tenney made it clear that they brought no
message from President-elect Carter.
