Since my last correspondence with your office concerning
the "Liberator" pistol, properly designated "Flare Projector
.45 Caliber" I have obtained a substantial amount of information
concerning, it. Some of this information prompts me to once
again write to you for some additional information which you
may or may not have in your unclassified files.
The first item is; Could you possibly furnish me, wil:h the
present address of one Marcel Vigneras, formerly a member of
OSS in 1943 and later a researcher with the Histories]. Divl.sion
of E TO? He obtained his Ph.D. at Western Reserve University.
My second request; Could. you furnish me with a Xerox copy
of the memorandum you quoted in your letter to me of 11 Anngust
1971 stating that the War Department had ordered the F'r'-h;, half
of which were given to fri.end].y allied governments?
My last request is based upon recent information From a
valid source indicating that there exists at the present, time
a number of these pistols In a bonded warehouse, the iocation
being on the Fast Coast. These pistols were believed. to be
from an OSS Operation conducted by OSS London or OSS Algiers
titled. "Operation Zebra" conducted on lh_ July 19)4.11. It had to
do with a mass air drop of supplies to the F I. Could you please
check your Operation Zebra folder and see if these pistols were
dropped. to the FFI in Southern France. Any assistance you could
furnish in this matter would be greatly appreciated by me.

This letter is just to say thank you for the prompt, courtF,ous
and. Informative reply to my letter. I have been recently informed by
on advisor in Vietnam that three of these "Liberator" pistols were
found in an abandoned French arms cache in 1969 by Special Forces
in the Pleiku area. Evidently they were left-overs from the China-
Burma. area during World War 2 and then came into the Viet Cong's
control along with the French weapons and were cached away for future
use by the VC.
When my book is completed concerning this pistol I shall see that
you receive one of the very first free gratis copies. '1'kranks again
for your assistance. It is really apprect.ated..
Mr. Robert W. Koch
