SUBJECT: Visor Coatings
1 ?ollowing up our phone discussion of 16 March regarding visor coatings,
I'm enclosing a copy of Perkin-Elmer curves showing Transmission and
Reflectance characteristics for their LE-V-20 coatings.
We have been following up the various coating requirements quite closely
and have had highly beneficial discussions with P&E on precisely the
problem you've had following up also.
You will note that the material that the curves apply to is Plexiglass.
While OCL and others have maintained that coatings which we desire
cannot be put on plastics, P&E claims they can be but concedes that
durability will be only as good as the substrate.
In thinking about how best to pursue the project, it may be beneficial
for us to let OCL proceed with the glass blanks which We have now
committed with them except to get the new type coatings which we
desire specified for whatever we can reschedule and let P&E follow up
the possibilities for plastic visors and/or sunshades as seems
necessary,
We suggest you have II review the curves to see if the characteristics
are as he feels necessary based on your understanding of the heat source
and intensity. We would appreciate your comments as a result of the
review.
In the meantime, I will discuss the course of action proposed with

the first of the week as I indicated to you.
The P&E people are expected to visit our plant next week to show us some
samples they have been working on based on recent discussions with them.
When I have the results, I will advise you of the progress.
