part of the class of 1930 was inducted in the spring of 1950, and
the other half of the class of 1930 was inducted in the fall of 1950,
as there were only two induction dates in the USSR.- in spring and in fall. One-
half of each class was called in each time. Ionly half of the
class of 1932 was inducted in the fall of 1951.

clothes. There were 30. men in each oar; the car consisted of one
compartment with a double tier of benches along the wall, on which

On 14 Jun 51, D about 40 other recruits boarded a-German type
train at Chernyakhovsk and were sent to Frankfurt Oder 221N-14 E7.
via Zheleznodorozhn k21N-2I19 and Poland
arrived in Frankfurt Oder on.. June
and were.e one day in an unidentified replacement depot,
continued to Templin L 307N-13307, Germany the summer
location of the 17th Gds Mecz Regt, 6th Gds Mecz Div, 4th Gds'Mecz
Array. A kitchen car was included in the make-up of the train and
the men were served hot meals.

in cases of emergency (death in family,, severe illness, etc) ; hower .ez
it took. months to-investigate and approve such a leave, and by the
time it was approved the CO might cancel the leave because the emergency
had passed. EM complained between themselves about not getting leaves
but did not make official complaints or demand leave Officers and

ll,.Eight Soviet females arrived in the 17th Gds Mecz Regt in the tall
of 1951 as replacements for all German' female employees of the 17th
Gds ,Meru Regt. These girls had been called by the Rayvoyenkomat and
asked to volunteer for duty in the Soviet Zone of Germany, and
all.accepted. The girls were between 20 and 24 years of age,
wore officers' uniforms with EM shoulder boards, and received the
pay of civilian employees (about 700 East Marks' and 600 rubles
monthly) They lived in separate billets, two to a room. Two girls
were typists at the Headquarters of the 17th-Gds Mecz Regt and six
were waitresses in the officers' messhall. These ,girls had a double
mission to : do their assigned duties and to associate with the
officers They did not associate with the EM,,, One of the girls
committed suicide in May 1952 after a quarrel with an officer. 1Two
other girls became pregnant and were returned to the USSR. All of
the other girls had secret abortions, All these details are-true
.And were common knowledge of the EM of the 17th tads Mecz Regt,
a female lieutenant in Eberawalde
uas there with a censorship unit.
