SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 1. The Lvov Agricultural Machinery Plant (Lvoveelmaeh) manufactures fodder steamers and horse-drawn and tractor-drawn sprayers for use in combatting pests on farms. the plant is part of the Ministry of Agricultural Machine Building (Ministerstvo Selskokhozyaystvenn0go Mashinostroyeniya) or if it is under the Ministry of Agriculture (Mtnisterstvo Selskogo Ilozyaystva) of the Ukrainian SSA. 2.oRtt 2,000 persons are employed at the plant on two shifts. The first shift is from $;00 a.m. to 4;30 p.m., with a half-hour for lunch at 12100 noon. The second shift works from 5;00 p.m. until 12:30 a.m, Some of the shops in the plant work three shifts, but not regularly. In 1949 and 1950, the factory fulfilled only 70 percent of its plan. The explanation given at the plant for this vas that there was not enough metal. The supply of metal comes from some trust in Kiev. 4? Admittance to the farm machinery plant is by special pass. There are both temporary and permanent passes, the latter bearing the picture of the person to whom it was issued. No pass of any kind is needed by persons applying at the personnel section for Jobs. In some of the departments at the plant, there are various machines packed in special sealed orates. Some of the workers believe that these machines are intended for the conversion of the factory to war production, should this become necessary. There are rumors that the factory is intended for the production of mortar shells during mobilization. Contiguous to the factory premises is an area surrounded by a high barbed wise fence (sic; diagram shows part of the area enclosed by a stone wall). Under construction in 1950 were an assembly shop and other shops. The prisoners are brought from prison amps to the plant in motor vehicles. They work under the guard of the M9D. 6. All the rho at the Lvov Agricultural Machinery Plant are one story high. 2 5X1A the attached sketch of the factory, numbers on which refer to the following sites. 1. Mechanical workshop. This building is about 50 to 60 meters long. It contains about 25 lathes, Most of the lathes are old and some are from dismantled German factories, 2. Mechanical and assembly shop. Fodder steamers are assembled here. The building also houses drilling machines. 3. ch e s ware----house. This is a small, one-story, wooden building in which are . stored. the. machine parts produced in other shops. Woodworking lie Wooden parts, like shafts and handles, for use on horse- drawn devices are made here. 5. building an$ verve el_ sea-U% . This is a_ red brick building two stories high. It is divided into two separate parts. The personnel section is on the left and there is anurguarded entrance from the street to the employment office. It is not possible to go from the personnel section to the factory area. There is a private office of the plant director on the second floor of the club building. The professional union factory committee (Zavkom) also has an office in this building. Various machine parts are stored in the basements lao AA- ni ^tst o j1 This is a two-story red brick building, containing offices of the director, bookkeeper, and tnanoe section. 7. ld2Zkgh2L?_ Various instruments and precision parts are made here. small passage connects this shop with the administration building. Be Boiler. The boiler which supplies central steam heating to the whole ,al nt is located here, as is the plant transformer. 9. Ngtal et~-- Metal of various types are stored here In the open air for future use in the workshops. The area is surrounded bpr barbed wire and there is a wooden covering supported on posts. 10. Igo i7rest This shop has a cast-iron smelting furnace which towers above of the one-story stone building where it is located. Metal machine parts of various types are oast here. 11. &akig welding shoe. This shop is located in a red brick building constructed in 1950. 12. AUL2f6 Uoo . This is the area in which prisoners were working on the construction of new shops. When source saw the area, the buildings were still.under construction, but he believes that they would have been finished by 1952 and the construction work discontinued.
