The Board on August 9 discussed the question you put about
the TAGBOARD project, concentrating almost entirely on the
political advantages of using an unmanned rather than a manned
vehicle. It was agreed that if one of these vehicles came down
in unfriendly territory the adverse political and propaganda
reaction would be greater if a pilot were recovered. A good
deal would depend on the circumstances surrounding the event,
on the international sit-akation at the time, on the country in,
which it happened, and on how much that country might wish to
make of the possession o:' a captured pilot. Nevertheless, the
Board thought that, by and large, the difference would in most
cases probably not be very substantial.
