THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
The Chinese Communist 43 Army has been given responsibility for the defense of
Hainan Island. The 43 Army was given this assignment because a number of the
Hainan Military District troops were reorganized into reserve units of the
Volunteer Army and sent to the Northeast in late July. Headquarters of the 43
Army and its supporting units are at Haikaou (110-20, 20-03).
2. The 127 Division, 43 Army, is stationed at Hsinmin (2450/3046) and Lohui
(110-27, 19-13).
3. In early August the 128 Division was moved from the Kwangsi coastal area to
Lienchiang (11016, 21-36) and Haian (3189/1344),1 on the Leichou Peninsula.
This division is a mobile unit temporarily stationed in this area.
In early August the 129 Division, 43 Army, moved from the Kwangsi coastal area
to Hainan via Shihwantashan (:L08- , 22-. ), the Leichou Peninsula, and the Ch?iung-
chou Straits (110- , 20- ). Headquarters of the 129 Division is at Yulin (109-34,
18-13) with subordinate units deployed in south Hainan.
5. One division of the 53 Army assumed garrison of the areas vacated by the 128 and
129 Divisions. -71 25X1 Comment. Possibly Haianso (110-13, 20-17) is meant.
