The Metallurgical Institutei located on ul. Karola Miarki 12; Gliwice
is subordinate to the Ministry of Heavy Industry.;. Prior to 10 January'
1951., Professor Michel Smialowski was the general director. At present
the post is vacant, Eng. (fnu) Przegalinski is the deputy director and
Eng.. Kazirierz Markiewicz is tpe1nical director.

The task of the institute is to elaborate new methods ofwork and production.
The standard is not high. Foreign publications are used, particularly
American and Zaglish, and every effort-is being made to acquire a knowledge
of Western methods and. their application,

near :Bydgoszez.d This device is for accurate measurement of sulphuric acid,
liquid chlorine, glycerine and nitrate. 01, worka were considerably extended
and are now one of the largest in Polandb
A method for continuous casting of bearing bushes was developed in the
Department of Non-ferrous Me tals, in compliance with an order received from
the Military Motor Works (Wojskowe Zaklady Motory'zaeyjrie) at Siemianowice,
near Katowice. These works, after having been di.sman.tled.by.tbe Russians in
1945, are at present only engaged in.repa:irIng military trucks and tanks,
