In the spring of 1951 the Agricultural Planning Office (Mezdterv) of the
Hungarian Ministry of Building was given as a top priority assignment the
planning of a new penicillin factoryt complete with internal technical and
other installations,, at Debrecen4 The urgency of the assignment was stressed
by the fact that special premiums were promised for prompt work.
In fact, the factory was built and completely installed in the record time
of 92 months. It was to commence production in June 1952.
Before starting on the planning of the factory, Hungarian experts visited
the penicillin factories in.Poland.and.Czechoslovakia. Of these the Polish
is by far the larger; however, the Czech factory is more up-to-date and.
much more efficient:,

Some indication of the size of the Debrecen, factory may be gathered from the
fact that it has 3 refrigerating rooms, each 4 meters high, with a floor
area of about 100 square meters.
A great part of the equipment for the Debrecen factory was supplied by
L. Lang & Co. of Budapest, who were considerably assisted by the advice
