THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The Gliwice coke plant in Gliwice consists of one old and four modern ovens,
and produces 800,000 tons of coke annuall.y:k it employs 500 workers. Its
director, Ing. &tii d Musial, the chief engineer (fnu) Dobrowolski, and the
laboratory chief (fnu) Gajda as well as most of the other employees are anti-
communistic. This plant is presently being enlarged and morn.,. It is
the only coke plant in Poland using the Ze.sypowy system.. The coal for this
plant is supplied by the Gliv`ce Mine nearb . The coke plant and the mine
are under the save guard system. The guarrd office is located in the coke
plant. Passes to all of the industrial installations in this area are is-
sued by. the guard ffice at the coke plant.. The passes do not have the
bearer "s- photograph and must be renewed every three months. The worst pro--
duction difficulty is the pre.Tence of water in the soot (about 16%).
2. The Makoszowy coke plant in. Makoszowy near Zabrze consists of two old ovens,
two fairly new ones, and two modern ones. The production is 950,000 tons of
coke annual-1;y !It employs 450 workers. The coke plant is situated next to
its source of supply, the Makoszowy Mine. On 30 October 1951, two new Otto
ovens were installed. All ovens use the Ubijany system.
I Comment: This plant has also been reported as producing benzol,
tax and ammonia.
