A search of all portions of the Sino-Soviet/Sino-Mongolian Border
covered on was accomplished in
accordance with the presecribed procedure of analysing each new mission in
an attempt to determine possible changes in the type or level of military
activity within 150 nm of the Sino-Soviet/Sino-Mongolian Border (signifi-
cant items within 300 nm may also be included).

Approximately 200 unidentified vehicles were observed throughout the
installation. The training areas appeared to have a medium level of
activity.

ULAN-UDE ARMY BARRACKS BEREZOVSKIY, USSR 51 53N-107 31E
More than 600 vehicles/pieces of equipment were observed parked in the
open throughout the installation. Approximately 140 of these vehicles are
probable tanks (see Figure 2). The tracked vehicle driver training area
and the tank/assault gun firing range showed a medium level of activity.
Figure 2 shows one of the vehicle/equipment maintenance/storage areas at

Activity within these two complexes appears to be limited - probably
due to a medium snowfall throughout the area. Travel between the two
countries appears to be limited both by road and rail routes. A train is
observed on the photography at the border checkpoint between the two towns.
Approximately 15 cars and an engine are in the train - movement appears to
be toward the town of Manchu-Li.

SHAN-PA AREA, PROBABLE MILITARY INSTALLATION, CHINA 40 55N-107 04E
A small probable military installation is located approximately 2 km
NW of Shan-Pa.. Facilities include a total of 14 buildings, a probable
infantry training area and 14 possible artillery pieces.

TING-KOU-CHEN AREA PROBABLE NQLITARY INSTALLATION, CHINA 39 54N-1o6 42E
A small probable military installation is located on the west edge of
Ting-Kou-Chen.. Facilities include 20 probable barracks, 3 probable vehicle
storage sheds, 12 miscellaneous buildings and 15 pieces of unidentified
equipment.
