interview for a constituent, After checking with
Office of Personnel, I advised Miss Mitchell that an appointmenS&OTHR
been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 1 April, with Mr.~
5. (Confidential - JGO) Met with Mrs. Eddymarie McCoy,
Assistant to Senator Alan Cranston (D. Calif. ), and reviewed a copy
of an undated letter to Air America from
of Sonora, California. The letter was addressed "Centiral Intelligence
Agency, Air America, 815 Connecticut Avenue, etc. " with copies to
Senators Cranston and Murphy and "Representative Bizz Johnson" and
is an application for employment for both
At my suggestion Mrs. McCoy will take no action on the letter at this 25X1A
time. I will furnish her a copy of the Air America response at such
time as it is available. Mr. - DDS, has been advised.
6. (Confidential - JGO) In a chance meeting with David Minton,
Staff Director and Counsel, Senate Post Office and Civil Service
Committee, he advised that another meeting of the
negotiators on the postal pay raise is scheduled for Wednesday and
hopefully a bill will be forthcoming for presentation to the Congress.
It is not at all certain, however, that the matter will be finalized in
tomorrow's meeting.
7. (Unclassified - JGO) Received a call from Mr. William
Hogan, House Armed Services Committee staff, requesting, if available,
copies of the Julius Mader books Who's Who in CIA and Yellow List:
Where is the CIA.
8. (Confidential - JGO) Received a call from Mr. Daniel
Manelli, Staff Attorney, House Special Subcommittee on Investigations,
Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee, who advised that he is -
in the process of a final draft of the Committee's report on NBC news
programming. Mr. Houston has been advised.

5. (Secret - JMM) Called the office of Representative Frank
Bow (R., Ohio) and in his absence requested that he call me to arrange
a date for a briefing on (concerning which he had
queried the Director during our recent appearance before our House
Appropriations Subcommittee. )
6. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Met with Representative Clement
Zablocki (D. , Wis.) and Mr. George Berdes, Administrative Assistant
to the Representative, in response to the request of the Representative's
office in assistance in locating an unclassified film on the Katyn Forest
atrocities. Representative Zablocki advised that he has a constituent
request for the film. He also told me that he believed that a film was
made up by a commission that included among its members Represen-
tatives Ray J. Madden (D. , Ind.) and Roman Pucinski (D. , Ill. ). I told
him that I would relay this information and be back in touch.
7. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Daniel Manelli, Staff Attorney,
Special Subcommittee on Investigations, House Interstate and Foreign
Commerce Committee, and returned to him the initial draft of the
sections of the Committee report on CBS news programming that make
reference to the Agency. I told Manelli that we had no suggestions,
comments, or changes in the draft. He told me that he could not put a
date on the completion of the final draft, but that he would call me so
that we might have another look-see at that time.
8. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Delivered to Miss Judy Spahr, on
the staff of the National Security and International Operations Subcommittee,
Senate Government Operations Committee, the report
on the Moscow Pravda "observer" article on the SALT talks.
9. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Arthur Kuhl, Chief Clerk, Senate
Foreign Relations Committee, who requested that the 28 October 1969
transcript of the Director's briefing on Laos be forwarded each day to the
Committee through the rest of the week.

8. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, on the staff of
the House Appropriations Committee, who gave me a letter from Chairman
Mahon to the Director concerning an appointment to the Special Committee.
I briefed Mr. Preston on the following items:
b. Soviet air shipments into Egypt during the
week;
c. Logistical and other limitations on Communist
forces action in Laos;
d. Soviet Hen House radar.
9. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Daniel Manelli, on the staff of
the House Investigative Subcommittee, House Committee on Interstate and
Foreign Commerce, and received from him a copy of the rough draft of a
Committee report on investigation of CBS news programming policies.
Mr. Manelli requested, if possible, that our review be completed and the
draft returned early next week. 25X1A
10. (Secret - JMM) Accompanied , Chief, FE Division,
who briefed Chairman John Stennis, Senate CIA Subcommittee of Armed
Services, on the situation in Laos. Senator Stennis, who had requested the
briefing yesterday, was particularly interested in getting reassurances that
no Agency personnel were involved in combat operations. Mr. 25X1A
summarized the history of our Laos involvement, the policy authority under
which we had acted, the numbers of our personnel involved, our casualties
to date, and the present military situation.
11. (Unclassified JMM) With the Director's approval I called
Representative Lucien Nedzi to say that the Director regretted that he could
not accept the invitation of the Democratic Study Group to brief them on the
Laos situation on 10 March. I explained that this involved Agency operational
activities which we felt could properly be discussed only with appropriate
congressional committees, and not with other groups. Nedzi said he fully
understood this and that in extending the invitation he had been under the
impression that the matter had already been cleared with the Agency. He
asked that I explain the matter to Representative Bingham who had joined Nedzi
in extending the invitation. I called Representative Bingham's office but found
he will be in New York until Monday.
