Questions from a PFIAB Member re "Scorpio"
1. The Secretariat of the President's Foreign Intelligence
Advisory Board has passed us the following questions from Leo
Cherne, a Board member, with the request that we provide the
response on an informal basis. Mr. Cherne is a very active member
of the PFIAB and has been actively involved in economic intelligence
matters.
2. Mr. Cherne's questions result from his seeing the movie,
"Scorpio," on TV the other evening and then noting on the following
day that Clifton Daniel had a signed piece in the New York Times
CC dtgcuss CIA's role in assassinations and cited "Scorpio" as
authority.
3. Mr. Cherne's questions are:
How did it come about that "Scorpio" was filmed
in part at CIA Headquarters at Langley - an
obvious break from past CIA practice?
What did CIA expect to get out of its cooperation--
since the motion picture has such an anti-CIA focus?
Did the author of "Scorpio"--the novel--have any
background in CIA?
4. I would appreciate it if you would pass me responses which
can be conveyed to Mr. Cherne.
