A probable new class PGM (Motor Gun Boat) has been identified in
Communist China. This unit which is similar in configuration to the 130-ft
Shanghai-class PTF, is long and ~ -n the beam. Units with arma-
ment in place were observe at Lu-shun Naval Base and Shipyard (38-)+8N
121-16E) (Figure 1) and at Hai-kou Naval Base (19-l4 N 109-12E). A probable
PGM was also seen partially completed on the buildingway (Figure 2) at
Shang-hai Naval Base and Shipyard Hu-tung (31-16N 121-34E), indicating the
possiblity of serial production at this location.
The armament seen on these vessels suggests that they mount possible
37mm main batteries (1 forward and 1 aft) and 2 athwartship (possibly dual
25mm AA) aft of the deckhouse. The deckhouse is similar but slightly larger
than that of the Shanghai-class. Two variations of the PGM deckhouse
have been observed. The hull plan and profile on these units also is quite
similar to the 130-foot PTF. The length/beam ratio on both is
