construction equipment or sup-
plies. Five or six railway cars
of undetermined type are standing on a short spur in the storage yard.
From Moshkovo the new right-of-way extends 14 nautical miles north-
northwest to a point southwest of the village of Tashara, near the Ob
river. The right-of-way ends in a U-shaped configuration with a turn-
ing radius of approximately 1,000 feet. At the time of photography
bridges and tracks were still lacking.
Along the bank of the northward-flowing Ob river, approximately
3,200 feet north from the end of the railroad bed, an irregularly-
shaped area of approximately 35 acres has been cleared recently of
trees and brush (figure 2). This area contains a single-story, gable-
roofed building, 165 by 50 feet, probably used to store timber-cutting
or loading equipment. The river bank has been cut down in three places,
one of which is contiguous with the clearing, to facilitate access to the

water. A barge, 190 feet long, is tied up along the bank next to the
cleared area. About 1,800 feet farther downstream there is a 700-foot
breakwater extending upstream from its junction with the river bank.
Two groups of frame buildings appear to be functionally related to
the rail line under construction; The larger of these, which includes
administration and storage buildings as well as housing units, is located
at the base of the U-shaped configuration of the roadbed, and is part
of Tashara Village (figures 2 and4). The smaller group, which includes
seven buildings, is located a short distance to the west. Three of the
latter buildings are within an irregularly-shaped fenced area covering
approximately one and three-quarters acres. The otherfour are outside
the fence. A description of the larger administration and storage-type
buildings in both groups is given in table 1 (see figure 4).

The Soviet press; on reported that the largest
timber transloading combine in Siberia was being built at the village
of Tashara, on the bank of the Ob River. However, construction of the
branch rail line and associated facilities shown on photo-
graphy was not sufficiently advanced to permit their identification as
a timber transloading combine.
