Approved For Release 2g9/09'ig'I-9A-RDP794751A000300100025-5 NOFORN PIC/JB-26/61 0 C OMMUNICA T C1l3/ Al. ; NEAR BAUTA.,.CUBA. A. communications station near Bauta, Cuba, first observed on 25X1D photography of is located at 22-57-OON 82-32-45W, 3 kilometers (1.6 naut ca Mmes south of Bauta and 26 kilometers (14 nautical miles) southwest of Havana (see Figure 1). The station covers an area of approximately 340 acres. At the time of the latest photography security provisions included a perimeter 25X1D fence under construction, five guard towers, and five light weapon positions, four of which were occupied (see Figure 2). The station has nine rhombic antennas (four completed and five under construction). Rhombic 3, under construction, will replace No 4. All the rhombics are the four-pole type, except No 1, which is probably a bent rhombic. Rhombics 1-5 are oriented toward Europe and 6-9 toward South America. In the west part of the station area .are five stick masts: a group.of three and a pair. These masts probably support horizontal antennas. No feed or dissipation lines can be identified with any of the antennas. Antenna data are given in Tables 1 and 2 (item numbers are keyed to Figure 2). A. cross-shaped control building (item a) is centrally located in the station area. It measures 190 by 150 feet and the center section is approximately 40 feet high (see Figure 3). The building is served by an all-weather road and has several adjacent parking areas. The presence of two cooling ponds, 15 feet square, near the building tends to indicate that this is a transmitting station. In addition, sections of the roof of the control building.appear to be water holding basins. A. 135-foot self-supporting lattice tower, possibly for local broadcasting and/or microwave relay, borders the: northwest corner of the control building. Other buildings in the area include a security building, (item e), at the entrance, and three buildings (items b, c, and d) which appear to be associated with construction activity. Item b is 40 by 30 feet; c, 25 feet. square; and d, 20 by 15 feet. 25X1D Information on the progress of construction at the station Declass Review by NIMA/DOD is given in Table 3. - I - 25X1 D Approved For Release 20TOP SECPCR I 18104 51A000300100025-5 NOFORN Approved For Release 2001/09/01 : CIA-RDP78TO4751A000300100025-5 z 0 0 X z Approved For Release 2001/09/01 : CIA-RDP78TO4751A000300100025-5 Approved For Release 2O 0'h/09/A1 '; ~DI 51 A000300100025-5 NOFORN PIC/JB-26/61 I ?- - 666~~~ PROBABLE CONSTRUCTION AREA+"eJ LIGHT WEAPONS TRAIL MAST MAST FOUNDATION GROUND SCAR ? ?
