They start taking their land and their oil back from us. They even start talking about kicking us out. We try to get them to listen to. reason (SOUND:. CASH REGISTER), but there are hard- core. incorrigibles. VOICE: You mean uncorruptibles. ROCKEFELLER: And if all else fails, well, what's the CIA for, anyway? VOICE: Yeah, what is the CIA for, anyway? (MUSIC) SPEAKER, IN A LISPING VOICE: The CIA is the most secret part of the federal government. It employs. 200 thousand people, and spends billions of dollars every year, but it never has to report to anyone exactly what it does. However, we do have a few examples on how the CIA works. (MUSIC) WOMAN: In Iran in 1953, a popularly elected govern- ment that wanted to nationalize British-owned oil wells, was overthrown by a CIA-organized coup. This coup was the means by which American oil companies for the first time were able to get into Iran. The Director of the CIA at that time was Allen Dulles, a top Rockefeller lawyer. MAN: In Guatemala in 1954, a popularly elected government that wanted to nationalize land held by the United Fruit Company was ousted by a CIA-sponsored coup.. United Fruit's former lawyer and major stockholder was the Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, brother of CIA Director Allen Dulles, and former president of the Rockefeller Foundation. Indonesia has the world's largest petroleum reserves, and the Indonesian generals have now opened them up to American oil companies. MAN: Like Indonesia, South Viet Nam borders on the oil deposits of the South China Sea, but in South Viet Nam the people are waging a war of national liberation against U. S. domination. William Colby, the CIA's present Director, set up assassination squads in South Viet Nam which, he told Congress, have murdered 50 thousand Vietnamese. Meanwhile, Exxon, the Rockefeller's largest oil corporation, is pressing ahead its plans to exploit Vietnamese oil. WOMAN: Then in September, 1973, CIA veterans of the 1954 Guatemala coup helped the Chilean military overthrow one more popularly elected government and murdered Chilean President Allende. One of the major reasons for the coup was the fact that Allende had nationalized U. S. companies, in- cluding the Rockefeller controlled Anaconda copper mine in Chile. ROCKEFELLER: We always had a strong influence on the CIA. The J. Edgar Hoover of the CIA, the late Allen' Dulles, was one of our top lawyers. After him came John McCone, former Standard Oil of California. William Colby, the present head of the CIA, doesn't have any direct ties to our empire, but he's always willing to cooperate with us. He has our interests in mind.
