,r4R a ran X ved For Release 20 1Wa ;Qt&F 8)%Q1 10 September 1977 More on the C.I.A. Operation Mind Control is a Fontana original in November. Americans will have the chance of reading it in six weeks' time, when Dell do a first printing of half a million. Dellacort will hardback it in the spring, six months after the soft-cover. Fontana had 24 hours to make up their minds about it, and conscious of its dynamite content they readjusted all their schedules to publish it on 31st November. Operation Mind Control, by Walter Bowart, claims to be the story of how the C.I.A: have used brainwashing techniques far more effective and sinister than the traditional methods in order to take over the minds of Americans and use them as intelli- gence gatherers, as messengers, hu- man computers, or even as assassins. Bowart's astonishing book appears to give chapter and verse on how the C.I.A. moulded men's minds to its own nefarious purpose. But will it turn out to be another spoof at the expense of the C.I.A.? It will cer- tainly hit the headlines. STAT Approved For Release 2004/10/13 : CIA-RDP88-01350R000200160003-4 '
