TO Chief, Industrial Division
FROM : Chief, Shipbuilding Branch
DATE: 28 March 1957
SUBJECT: Reduction of Intelligence Maintenance Time in I/SH for FY 58.
1. As directed I have submitted an estimate of 4300 hours
(36 percent total analyst time) required for intelligence maintenance
in the branch in FY 58. This allotment of hours compares with an 25X9A2
actual expenditure of or the 1st 8 months of FY 57 25X9A2
(indicating an annual expenditure of about . This
indicates that some reduction in branch responsibility must be
approved in order to live within the allotted for intelli- 25X9A2
gence maintenance in FY 58.
2. It is therefore recommended that the branch drop all
maintenance on the following branch responsibilities:
(a) Industries producing Naval ordnance.
(b) The shipbuilding industries of Albania, Bulgaria,
North Korea and Communist Indo China.
(c) Shipbuildin:; for the Bloc in Italy, Japan and France.
(d) All ship component and ship equipment industries
except main propulsion machinery.
3. If the above is approved I/SH will initiate suitable changes
in the branch requirements to the reading panels.
