Approved Fbr&Kelease 2002/06/17: CIA-RDP78B04WA001400040028-3 STATINTL DATE: 24 February 1966 Monthly contract Status Report #8 Advanced. Light Tables Period: 1 February 1966 to 28 February 1966 1. Objective: To design and develop three Advanced Light Tables. 2. mary of Work Performed During the Reporting' Period: Castings for Tables #1 and #2 were delivered STATINTL or machining. Table #1 casting machining will be complete by 15 March '66. The castings for Table #2 will be complete by 1 April '66. The film transport mechanisms are assembled for Tables #1 and #2. These units will be installed immediately upon delivery of the castings. Table #3 design is progressing in the area of the tracking light source transport mechanism and casting design. The configuration for the tracking light sources has been established by the customer. Three separate cold cathode pans will be used to provide the required illumination for the microscopes in the normal and 900 positions. Switching from normal to 90 configuration will be done electrically rather than rotating the pans. Three transformers for the light pans will be mounted to the tracking light source carriage on the exterior of the table. 3. Work Schedule Conformance: Delivery of Light Table #1 is anticipated on 1 April '66. Delivery of Table #2 will be on 15 April '66 if the microscope table and castings are delivered on schedule. The delivery of Table #3 is yet to be determined. 4. Analysis of Work Program Covering the Reporting Period: Considerable progress has been made during the month of February in the final fabrication and assembly of Tables #1 and #2. Design is progressing on Table #3. It has been discovered that a cooling problem exists in the high intensity light sources. The magnitude of the problem has been determined and a forced air cooling system is. being selected to remove the heat. Several engineering problems still remain to be solved before detail drawings of all components can be completed. Changes in Key Personnel: 6. Trips, Meetings, and Special Conferences: The customer's representatives visited plant on 14 February '66. A mock-up of a portion of the i m transport mechanism for Table #1 was demonstrated. It was determined from this demonstration that friction must be reduced in the unit to provide a suitable cranking force. The high intensity light source configuration was discussed for Table #3. It was decided that a three source configuration would be used rather than the two sources previously agreed upon. New cold cathode lamps were demonstrated which have been developed to reduce flicker at low light levels. 7. Plans for the Next Reporting Period: 1. Complete the assembly of Table #1. 2. Begin the assembly of Table #2. 3. Continuation of Table #3 design. 4. Procurement of tracking light sources. STATINTL STATINTL Approved For Release 2002/06/17 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO01400040028-3
