SUBJECT: Chief, Imagery Analysis Division, CIA I I Film Reader Model 265 - Drawings 25X1A Nor 2 25X1A 25X1A 1. Per your request of 18 March 1966, Memorandum, P&DS/D/SSS/6-1R iwe have reviewed the drawings submitted 1wthe Division ofl lunderl 25X1 2. Although Flappears to have performed a creditable job in design- ing a production model film reader which would resolve problems encountered in the prototype F--]viewer, current IAD responsibilities do not require utilization of an instrument of this type. We do not, therefore, recommend production of the Model 265 at this time unless its use is required by the NPIC/PAG. 3. Should a device of this type become an integral part of any future "chip selection" system we would, of course, wish to re-evaluate this pro- posal. 4. We appreciate the opportunity of participating in this evaluation, and are returning the subject drawings with this memorandum. 25X1A Attachment Subject Drawings Distribution Original - Addressee 2 - OSS/IAD Approved For Release 2002/11/01: (AA- SECRET 7 4747 MOMAIIC awnsrading and derlwaticativ 001300030005-0 viro 5X1A Approved For Release 2002/11/01 : CIA-RDP78604747A001300030005-0 Approved For Release 2002/11/01 : CIA-RDP78604747A001300030005-0 ApprOved For Release 241413ECREI-RDP781304747A001300030005-0 25X1A IPO/OSE/M-131-66 30 March 1966 MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant for Plans and Development, NPIC ATTENTIONn SUBJECT : Comments on riFilm Reader 25X1A 1. In response to your request to evaluate the engineering drawings and specifications for the new film reader, the P&G has found it impossible to re- view the box of engineering drawings -submitted but the "System Description and Specifications #265" has been read and comments made in pencil near the state- ment to which it refers. 2. In reading the system description there seems to be no great change in oper ting procedures over what is now available in the prototype. One exception to this however is the film or leader loading which has been auto- mated. According to the description of this however, it still is not a proven system operation that can be depended upon. More work should be done on operator convenience and simplification of procedures. 3. A memorandum evaluating the use of the present= Reader/Viewer prototype will be forthcoming next week from PAG. This paper lists advantages and disadvantages, and recommendations concerning use of the instrument and additional computer data which would aid the photointerpretor. 4. It would be Appreciated if thegns indicated in the comments on the "System Description and Specifications #265" were answered and for- warded to PAG. It is further _suggested thatI lhave a discussion of the concept and operation of the new H Reader/Viewer . 25X1A 25X1A ,25X1A Assis ant for Photographic Analysis, NPIC SECRET Approved For Release 2002/11/01 : CIA-RDP78604747A001300030005-0 25X1A 25X1A Approved For Release 2002/11/01 : CIA-RDP78604747A001300030005-0 ,eyAL t Li-e/77-7 tf , . %t. ?ZS- ';',1,5'e?-?111"`"--"4 -
