The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center iPic (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. Rail access is provided by a probable improved secondary road connection with a transloading point on the rail line. A large training area adjoining the instal- lation on the northeast contains three tank/ assault gun moving-target firing ranges, a pos- sible known-distance, flat-trajectory firing range, a probable artillery range, and two small- arms ranges. The installation (Figures 2-7) encompasses approximately 2,000 acres and includes a total TCS-7609/64 NPIC/R-747/64 of 297 buildings of which there are four admin- istration, 59 barracks, 36 general storage, 173 general support, 10 possible ammunition storage, and 15 vehicle /equipment maintenance and stor- age buildings. pre- cludes a determination of the extent of occupancy and training due to recent snowfall. The installation has undergone no apparent change since its initial coverage in Rail Service Rail service is provided by a road connection to the Chelyabinsk-Zlatoust rail line. There is a possible transloading dock 1.5 km south- east of the installation. Road Service A probable hard surface, all-weather road connects the installation with the east-west rail line from Zlatoust to Chelyabinsk. A secondary road connects the installation with a primary, all-weather road between Chelyabinsk and Kundrayy. Administrative and Troop Housing Areas Area D1 (Figure 3) contains 13 barracks and one support building. Area D2 contains two administration build- ings and five support buildings. This is prob- ably the main administrative area. Area D3 contains seven barracks and five support buildings. Area D4 contains 10 barracks and eight support buildings. Area D5 contains 18 barracks, one admin- istration building and 17 support buildings. This is possibly an officers /civilian housing area. Area D6 contains four barracks and five support buildings. General Storage Areas Area El has nine storage buildings and is secured by a probable single fence. Area E2 has 27 storage buildings. Ammunition Storage Area Area F (Figure 5) has 15 unrevetted, 65- by 15-foot possible ammunition storage build- ings. Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas Area J1 contains one 425- by 45-foot vehicle maintenance /storage building, two 255- by 50-foot vehicle maintenance/storage build- ings, and two support buildings. Area J2 contains one 195- by 85-foot vehicle maintenance/storage building, seven barracks, one administration building, and two support buildings. This area seems to be a vehicle park with an associated barracks area. Area J3 is a probable vehicle maintenance area associated with barracks area D6. It contains eight 200- by 50-foot vehicle main- tenance/storage buildings and seven support buildings. Area J4 contains two 330- by 35-foot vehicle maintenance/storage buildings, one 150- by 35-foot vehicle maintenance /storage build- ings, and seven support buildings. Athletic Fields Area. Kl is a probable track. Area K2 is a possible track. Small-Arms Firing Ranges Area LI is a 300- by 75-foot revetted, known-distance small-arms range and contains TCS-7609/64 NPIC/R-747/64 four support buildings. Area L2 is a 300- by 75-foot small-arms range. L1 appears active. L2 appears moder- ately active. Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Ranges There are three tank/assault-gun firing ranges (Figure 7): Ni is 2,540 feet long and has three 1,400-foot lanes and three targets; N2 is 3,600 feet long and has five lanes approx- imately 2,200 feet long and seven targets; N3 is 4,000 feet long and has three 2,150-foot lanes and four targets. Range N2 appears most active, while ranges N1 and N3 appear moderately active. Flat-Trajectory Firing Ranges Area P1 (Figure 7) is a 3,800-foot possible flat-trajectory firing range with seven parallel, known-distance firing lanes oriented approxi- mately at right angles to target runs. There are six targets.
