I'-RDP92B01090R000700010094-7 Summary of Events 28 August - 10 September 1959 Czechoslovakia has agreed to extend to Indonesia a credit of $10. 5 million for the construction of a cement plant and for the pur- chase of railroad cars and diesel generating equipment. The new extension of credit was made under a protocol to the May 1956 line- of-credit agreement, the. total value of which has now been announced as $21 million. On 27 August a contract was signed between a Soviet mission and the Executive Council of the Syrian sector of the United Arab Republic (URA) for the construction of a dam on the Euphrates River. The project will be financed out of the Soviet line of credit of $150 million that was extended to Syria in October 1957. The Bulgarian-Tunisian trade agreement that expired on 31 July has been renewed. The renewal calls for an increase of nearly 100 percent in the trade quotas on each side. Commodities to be exchanged are similar to those of earlier agreements. It was announced on 26 August that the Qizil Qala port project on the Oxus River had been completed 4 months ahead of schedule. Qizil Qala will be the northern terminus of the road linking Kabul with the Oxus River and will be the principal Afghan river port on the transit route to the USSR.
