Annual exports of gas totaling 1. 5 billion cubic meters (75 percent of planned production) are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 1966 and to extend through 1985. The USSR intends to use these imports of gas to supply the municipal needs of Dushambe and to provide the raw material for the Vakhsh nitrogen fertilizer plant -- the first chemical plant in Tadzik SSR. Under the Soviet aid program the USSR reportedly is willing to provide and install a medium-wave 1, 000-kilowatt transmitter for All- India Radio and to construct the radio station buildings at an estimated total cost of about $2. 1 million. A new Soviet credit valued at $280 million to the United Arab Republic (UAR) was announced at the conclusion of Premier Khru,!i shchev's recent visit. The new credit is for projects under the Egyptian Second Five Year Plan due to begin on 1 July 1965 and prob- ably will be used for, among other things, a steel complex and both thermal electric and hydroelectric powerplants. Since 19578 Soviet economic credits extended to the UAR have amounted to about $833 million and total Communist economic credits to more than $1 billion.
