Chilean by the name of Oscar Squella who has been imprisoned in Atlanta,
Georgia, for possession of cocaine. I told Tarabochia I vw uld look into this
and call him back.

Agency on the bill. He also asked if we had any objection to bringing the
bill to the attention of the Internal Security Subcommittee staff. I interposed

13. - GLC) Advised OTR, that I 11 had arranged for Mr. James Woolsey, General Counsel, Senate Armed
Services Committee, to speak to the Intelligence Production Course on the
Hill at 2:00 p.m. on 10 April. I told him we were seeking another speaker
from the House for later that afternoon. Mr. Maury will speak to the
group at Headquarters about 11:00 a. m.
14. - GLC) Al Tarabochia, Senate Internal Security
Subcommittee staff, called about the Jack Anderson column in this morning's
Washington Post which bore the headline "CIA Papers Show Anti-Allende
View. " He said in his opinion the information referred to in this column
to meet with the Subcommittee, but we still had their request very much in
mind. Tarabochia said that was all he was really interested in.
15. - GLC) Hand-carried to Mrs. Rita Curtin, on the

I told her the query they had also sent to State Department about

Appropriations Committee, to review the material which has been prepared
for the Director's presentation on the community budget. Woodruff made
several helpful suggestions but was generally enthusiastic about the book

Arrangements were made for Woodruff and Ralph Preston, House
Appropriations Committee staff, to come to the Agency for a prebriefing
session on the Agency budget next Wednesday, 5 April at 9:00 a. m. This
meeting will be conducted by Mr. Colby and OPPB.

7. - GLC) Talked with George Murphy, Joint Committee
on Atomic Energy staff, about several items from the Director's briefing of
the Committee on 16 February 1972 which require followup action. We are
taking these up with OSI and OSR.

8. I - JMM) Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel, Senate Armed
Services Committee, called and said the Chairman probably would like to
have the Director up before the CIA Subcommittee to discuss the Agency
budget on this Thursday, 30 March. We called back and confirmed the
Director's availability and said the Director would be accompanied by
Messrs. Colby, I land Maury.

and ice o ogistics, concerning the new requirements on excess
defense articles imposed by the Foreign Assistance Act of 1971 as cited to the
Comptroller General by Senator Case in which staff members of our committees
have shown an interest. We will be furnished with the relevant information when
it is drawn together.

5. GLC) OTR, called and asked if we
could arrange for several selected members of Congress or senior staff
people to talk with the Intelligence Production Course members on the Hill
on the afternoon of 10 April. He said they would also like Mr. Maury to
speak to this group that morning, if this was possible. I told we
would look into this and let him know what could be done..
6. GLC) In response to his call of yesterday, I called
Eric Free man, on taff of Representative Charles B. Rangel (D., N.Y.),
and. told him that,while we did not vouch for the accuracy of all the information
in the Moose/Lowenstein report of April 1971, he could find answers to some
of the questions he had raised about activities in Long Tieng. I told him that
anything further they might desire on this should be the basis of a request either

to Chairman Hebert or to Mr. Frank Slatinshek, House Armed Serv
Committee staff. (Slatinshek had previously agreed with this response to
Freedman's inquiry.)

- GLC) In connection with the inquiry from Al Tarabochia,

Senate Internal Security Subcommittee staff, about the status of the
last December, dvised that no action
would be taken on this case until after the President's trip to the Soviet Union.
We will merely advise Tarabochia that we are
and will let the Subcommittee know when he is availaole.
8. ~- JMM) Met with Senator Milton Young (R., N. Dak.) whom
I briefed on significant intelligence developments over the past three weeks
including items concerning a short-range Soviet missile system, a Soviet
bomber, certain sensitive Soviet research facilities, ChiCom submarines, a
type of Soviet aircraft, and the Y-class submarine.
Senator Young said he was aware of no particular interest or concern
in the Senate regarding the Jack Anderson revelations concerning ITT and
Chile or Senator Kennedy's allegations about CIA use of AID funds.
9~ JMM) Met with Dorothy Fosdigk, of Senator
Jackson's staff, and briefed her on recent developments of intelligence
significance (see predeeding item).
