I am attempting to assemble information on
the relative roles of women in the United States
and the People's Republic of China, and I thought
the Central Intelligence Agency might have avail-
able data I have been unable to locate elsewhere.
Specifically, the following information would be
helpful:
(1) The extent of participation and numbers
of women in the Red Guard
(2) Whether women play a specific active
political role in which men do not
participate
(3)
Statistics
following
students,
for men and women in the
areas, from 1949 to date:
factories, professions,
government, and Communist Party.
(4)
Whether the Cultural Revolution re-
sulted in equality for women, both in
theory and in practice.
(5) Role of the Chinese Federation of Women
in the Cultural Revolution.
Any assistance you may be able to provide in
gathering information in these areas will be
greatly appreciated.
