Action Requested: At the SCC meeting currently scheduled for 1500-1545 hours on 20 July 1979, you may be asked to provide the latest information on the situation in Nicaragua as well as your assess- ment of the impact of events on neighboring countries in Central America. I anticipate that Ambassadors Bowdler and Pezzullo, who were both intimately involved in negotiating the transition from Somoza to the Junta, will be present at the meeting. The Chairman may well turn to 25X1 them for this information. 2. The Office of Political Analysis will prepare a paper containing the most recent information on the situation in Nicaragua, as well as a separate paper on the impact of events on neighboring countries of Central America. These papers will be inserted in the notebook tomorrow 25X1 morning as Tab A. 25X1 3. Tab B contains the Agenda for the SCC meeting on Central America together with associated papers provided by the National Security Council. a Sandinista victory. This memorandum appears as Tab C. 4. The meeting was apparently prompted by a memorandum for the Secretary of Defense dated 25 June 1979 on limiting the consequences of 5. A memorandum from Dr. Brzezinski dated 13 June 1979 reports the President's approval of the Summary of Conclusions of the PRC meeting on Central America. This memorandum Summary of Conclusions appear as Tab D in the notebook.
