the chances of Katangan destruction of Kolwezi, and

Cuba: Castro continues his attempt to appear
neutral in the Sino-Soviet dispute.
The full text of the strongly anti-Peiping Pravda
editorial of 7 January was published by a Havana
newspaper on 8 January. This may have been in-
tended to balance the publication last month of Pei-
ping's anti-Soviet statement of 15 December.
In his 2 January speech, Castro deplored "public
discrepancies in the Socialist camp" and urged unity
within the bloc and among "revolutionaries" in Cuba.
At the present stage in the dispute, such an expres-
sion of neutrality would probably appear, in Soviet
eyes, to be tantamount to a gesture of support for the
Chinese.

The Soviet passenger ship Baltika, which arrived
in Havana on 6 January carrying Soviet agricultural
experts and a cargo of Czech beer, according to press
reports, left Cuba on 9 January with some 330 passen-

itary personnel were aboard. The Baltika and two

Accra--this time on 8 January at a heavily guarded
party rally to which Nkrumah had just delivered an
unannounced address--will probably discourage the
Ghanaian leader from making public appearances
