Overall action is light throughout the country. Most
of the fighting has occurred in Thua Thien Province where
South Vietnamese forces are readying an assault on a Com-
munist hill-top position overlooking the Phu Bai air base.
Because of bad weather and North Vietnamese counterattacks
against supporting government units , the main assault was
canceled until Saturday. General Truong, government coin-
mander for the region, reportedly was. furious when he learned
of the delay.- He is concerned that the Communists will now
be able to concentrate their forces against the government's

main assault units and prevent the South Vietnamese from re-
taking the position.
Government spokesmen announced at a press conference
that Communist terrorists attacked local South Vietnamese
security forces five miles from Saigon on October 23.
Rockets also were fired into a hamlet west of the city.
The incidents are the closest Communist action to the capi-
tal in several months.
