Simpson said their office had now been requested to provide information. I explained our situation and suggested that he talk to Mike I3ornblow,_staff, 15. LIAISON Called Scott Cohen, Executive Assistant to Senator Charles Percy (R., Ill. ),. concerning certain letters he had forwarded involving several foreign embassies and emigres. He explained he had forwarded them to us in light of the interest of F- I The letters were sent to to determine continued interest. 16. LIAISON Kempton. Jenkins, State Department, called to discuss press inquiries concerning Secretary of State Kissinger's statement on 23 December on briefing approximately 25 members of Congress on Angola. LIAISON Attended the funeral for Mr. Richard Welch at Arlington Cemetery. Senators Claiborne Pell (D. , R. I. ), and Charles Mathias (R. , Md. ), Representative Robert McClory (R., Ill. ), and aides, and Frank Slatinshek and Bill Hogan, House Armed Services Committee staff, also attended. 14. LEGISLATION Called Jim Oliver, OMB, and requested that OMB approve immediate transmittal of our intelligence sources and methods .legislation to Congress now that we have ironed out our differences with the Department of Justice. I also made a plug for its inclusion in the President's legislative program and the State of the Union message. A follow-up letter from the Director to James Lynn, Director, OMB, is being prepared. 15. LIAISON At his request, reviewed with Kemp ton en ins, State Department, the various options reasonably available concerning aid to Angola and concluded that following the draw down on Reserves, nothing further can be accomplished without: congressional approval. 16. 1 1 LIAISON At his request, reviewed with Fred Ruth, Legislative Assistant to Senator Dewey Bartlett (R. , Okla. ), the various reporting requirements to Congress on covert action for a speech by the Senator. I agreed to send him a?"copy of "Guide To CIA Statutes and Law. " 17. I I LIAISON Wheaton. Byers, P r B called and we reviewed the merits of organizational change at t: is time. He also said Charles Lombard, staff of the Senate Aeronautical. and Space Scienc Committee, needed a copy of Castro's speech on assassinations and I said we would provide it. 18. HEARINGS Jane McMullan, Senate Appropriations omnnli tee staff, alerted us that the Committee is scheduling a hearing on reprogramming relating to Angola sometime after 19 J'anu.ary.
